Below are three steps to a new adventure!
Step 1: Check your skills and experience
To participate in TGOC East you need to:

- have not previously completed the main TGOC Challenge event.
- have completed, within the last 5 years, a multi-day backpacking trip, in a wild environment, of at least 2 days/1 night. The trip must have involved at least 16km (10 miles) walking each day while carrying your equipment.
- have the ability to navigate, including using a compass, and be able to read a suitably detailed map (such as Ordnance Survey – paper or digital).
- have the ability to carry personal and camping equipment, and a minimum of 3 days’ provisions.
- have the capacity to be self-sufficient in remote areas where help may not be easily accessible, including suitable first aid skills.
- be able to assess and deal with adverse weather (wind, rain, occasionally snow, and excessive heat) and deal with unexpected issues including crossing unbridged river/burns and other obstacles that present themselves along the way.
All team members, not just the team leader, must have these skills. If you are uncertain about your skills please contact the Coordinators.
Step 2: Read the Terms and Conditions
Please read the TGOC East: Terms and Conditions before you apply. In particular, please take note of the withdrawal and cancellation clauses. We try to keep rules to a minimum, but you must agree to abide by those we have. You will be asked to confirm you have read and accepted the Terms and Conditions at the end of Entry Form. You can also read the TGOC East: Event Details before entering, which gives advice and information about the event.
Step 3: Complete the Entry Form
You will be asked for:
- your name, age, home town and contact details.
- the name of any team members (max team size is 4) so we can put you applications together (each team member must complete their own entry form).
- details of your hill walking and backpacking experience. You can find the Experience Form questions here.
The entry fee of £80 per person will be requested once the Coordinators have assessed the experience section of your entry form and informed you by email that your entry has been accepted. Once places on the event are filled, any further entrants will be given the choice to go on the reserve list.
Once entries open at noon (GMT) on Saturday 29th November 2025, you will be able to access the TGOC East Entry Form via the button below. If the button isn’t working please check the date!
