Reunions

The Spring Gathering

1st – 3rd April 2022

Organised by Alan Hardy, the Spring Reunion is an opportunity for regular Challengers to catch up and new Challengers to meet up with some old hands and experience the sociable side of the Challenge before the start of the event. For 2022 it moves to Hayfield in Derbyshire but will follow the usual format of a walk in Saturday followed by a three course meal – this time at the Sportsman Inn. The Scottish Reunion

31st September – 2nd October 2022

Organised by Kirsten Paterson this is open to all Challengers, past, present and future! There will be a three course meal on Saturday and plenty of Munros, Corbetts and Grahams in the area as well as good low level walks. Newtonmore’s Folk Museum is nearby or you can visit polar bears and wildcats at the Highland Wildlife Park (part of Edinburgh Zoo) which is just a few miles up the road.

We will post a booking form here once it is available.

The Hill and Mountain Walking Club

was set up so these like-minded people could enjoy the friendships forged on the Challenge, exploring the hills and mountains and share an occasional drink. The Club aims to provide the kindred-ship of the hills and promote awareness and conservation of wilderness areas. The patron of the club is Hamish Brown, well-known mountaineer, writer and photographer, who invented the Challenge.

Although it isn’t essential to have participated around 95% have completed a crossing. More information can be found here or contact the club secretary at info@hmwc.org.uk. The club is not a typical walking club and as one member puts it, the “Hill and Mountain Walking Club is a club for un-clubable people, who enjoy the hills!”

The club organises weekend meets throughout the year in all parts of Britain and abroad. Accommodation is normally low cost – bunkhouses, hostels or camping.
